Thornton-Fillyaw Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Nationals in 800
INDIANAPOLIS - Goucher College women's indoor track and field first year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) has qualified for this week's NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 800 meter run. This year's indoor nationals are set for Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The women's 800 prelims are set for Friday at 5 pm (Eastern), with the finals set for Saturday at 5:25 pm (Eastern).
Thornton-Fillyaw earned the 20th and final qualifying spot on Saturday, besting her own school record with a time of 2:15.07 and finishing third at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet. Her converted time of 2:13.53 placed her 25th nationally, but after delcarations, Thornton-Fillyaw earned the final spot.
The 2023 Landmark women's indoor track and field Rookie of the Year, Thornton-Fillyaw won the 800 at the conference championship. Her time in the meet at Tufts was the fourth-fastest in conference history.
Thornton-Fillyaw is Goucher's second-ever nationals qualifier in women's indoor track and field. Current sophomore Carter Hinton-Ayodele qualified in the triple jump in 2022.
