Thornton-Fillyaw Competes at NCAA Indoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Goucher College women's indoor track and field first year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) got off to a fast start in her 800 meter preliminary at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships before finishing 20th in her first trip to nationals. One of just two first-year student-athletes in the field, Thornton-Fillyaw posted a time of 2:29.9.
Thornton-Fillyaw's heat, heat #1, got off to a fast start, with four of the top six 200-meter split times coming in the heat. Her 200 time was 30.035 seconds.
Thornton-Fillyaw, who is just the second Goucher women's indoor track and field athlete to qualify for nationals, posted a school-record 2:15.07 at last weekend's Tufts National Qualifying Meet to reach the field. She was the Landmark Conference women's 800 champion and the conference's indoor Rookie of the Year.
