Thornton-Fillyaw Sets Women's 1500 Record, Gophers Open at Landmark Outdoor Championships Saturday
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Goucher College outdoor track and field teams opened competition at the 2023 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Moravian University's Breidegam Track on Saturday.
First year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) placed fourth in the women's 1500 meter run with a school-record time of 4:51.11. She bettered the old time of 4:54.37 established by Katherine Currier in 2012.
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) took sixth overall in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.27 meters.
In the women's 100 meter dash preliminaries Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) took 10th out of 24 with a time of 12.99 seconds.
For the Gopher men, Mark Martin (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.52 meters. Joshua Stevenson (Hyattsville, Md./Parkdale) was 10th in the 100 meter prelims coming in at 11.28 seconds.
Day two of the Landmark Conference Championships kicks off at 11 am on Sunday.
Mark Martin finished seventh in the men's long jump one week after setting the program record in the triple jump.
