Thornton-Fillyaw Caps Rookie Season With 21st Place at Nationals
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Goucher College women's track and field first year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) capped her impressive rookie year with a 21st place finish in the women's 800-meter run at the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Polisseni Track and Field Complex.
Running in the first of three heats, Thornton-Fillyaw posted a time of 2:15.34. She was just one of four freshmen in the 22-athlete field.
Friday's race caps an impressive season for the first year, who also qualified for indoor nationals in the 800. The Landmark Conference champion in both indoor and outdoor in the 800, Thornton-Fillyaw was also the conference's indoor Rookie of the Year. Along the way, she broke a total of six Goucher program records. After breaking three records during the indoor season (600, 800, 1000), Thornton-Fillyaw set program records in outdoor in the 400, 800 and 1500.
