Gopher Men Set Five School Records at Frank Colden Invitational, Cheney Wins Women's High Jump
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Goucher College men and women's track and field teams returned to competition at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. The Gopher men's team established five school records on Saturday.
Sophomore Mark Martin set a pair of jumps records, taking third place in both the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump Martin recorded a jump of 6.52 meters, eclipsing the 6.45 previous record set by Jay Briston earlier this season. Martin's 12.99 triple jump mark surpassed the 12.86 jump recorded by Aidan Kress two weeks ago at Catholic.
First year KeMarco Monger finished second overall and set a school record in the 400 meter run, posting a time of 51.50 seconds. He bettered a nearly 12-year old record of 51.74 set by Troy Browne on February 25, 2012.
Kress registered his second program record in the multis this season, taking sixth in the pentathlon with 2,655 points. Earlier this season he established the program record in the heptathlon with 3,521 points.
The men's 4x200 relay also ran a school-record time of 1:34.84 and placed fourth. The relay consisted of Deonte Lewis, Monger, Jay Briston and Syncere Lewis.
Briston placed 10th in the men's 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 7.30 seconds. Deonte Lewis was 12th, clocking in at 7.34.
Emmanuel Olarewju qualified for the men's 60 meter hurdle final and finished sixth with a time of 9.12 seconds.
Jair Smith finished seventh overall in the men's 5000, clocking a time of 16:42.65. Sean Whitfield notched an eighth place finish in the 800, checking in at 2:02.78.
The men's 4x400 relay comprised of Olarewju, Pani Marousis, Smith and Johan Martinez came home second with a time of 3:35.19.
For the Goucher women, Dorian Cheney took first place in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.50 meters.
In the women's 60 meter dash, Alana Acker was ninth in the prelims with a time of 8.37 seconds. Ray Asiedu placed 12th with an 8.43-second effort.
Asiedu also placed 11th in the women's 200 with a time of 27.37 seconds. Lydia Bailey notched an 11th place finish in the women's weight throw with a toss of 11.42 meters.
Goucher will next compete as a team on Saturday, February 17 at the Susquehanna Tune-Up.
