Mark Martin Sets Men's Long Jump Record at SU Tuneup
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Goucher College men's track and field sophomore Mark Martin set the men's school record in the long jump for the second time this season as the men and women's teams competed at the Susquehanna Tune-Up on Saturday.
Martin, who set the record at 6.52 meters earlier this season, unleashed a jump of 6.84 meters to take first place on Saturday. His mark is currently good for No. 2 in the Landmark Conference. First year Jay Briston also surpassed Martin's previous record, as he placed third with a jump of 6.64 meters.
Briston qualified for the men's 60-meter dash final along with sophomore Deonte Lewis. Briston finished seventh in the final with a time of 7.21 seconds, while Lewis was eighth, coming in at 7.29 seconds, after running 7.24 in the prelim. In the men's 200, Briston placed fourth with a time of 23.48 seconds, while KeMarco Monger took seventh with a 23.56-second run.
Emmanuel Olarewju qualified for the men's 60-meter hurdles final, and placed seventh in the final with a 9.20-second effort. Olarewju ran a time of 8.99 in the prelims.
Pani Marousis placed sixth in the men's 400, clocking in at 52.64 seconds. Monger finished seventh with a 52.88-second run. Sean Whitfield placed fifth in the men's 800, narrowly missing his own school record with a time of 2:02.01.
Ray Asiedu qualified for the women's 60-meter dash final and finished second in the final with a time of 8.12 seconds. In the prelims Asiedu ran an 8.32. In the women's 200 Asiedu placed seventh, clocking in at 27.49 seconds.
Goucher returns to Susquehanna next Saturday as it competes in the 2024 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
