TOWSON, Md. - Any chance Goucher had of knocking off Scranton at home this afternoon and preventing its losing streak from reaching double figures was doused by its shooting performance. A season-low .266 shooting percentage by the Gophers played a major role in the Royals securing an 83-53 Landmark Conference victory.
A follow by Latisha McCray (Richmond, CA/The Urban School) at the buzzer ending the first half only served to reduce Goucher's deficit after 20 minutes of play to 42-16. The Gophers, who have lost 10 in a row since a 64-56 triumph over Drew on Jan. 12, were 5-for-25 from the field in the opening period.
Scranton's lead fluctuated between 29 and 40 points through the second half.
One bright spot in the loss for Goucher (7-16, 2-11 Landmark) was that Shadae Swan (St. Frances Academy) extended her streak of double-digit scoring performances to 70 consecutive games by knocking down a game-high 18 points. The senior guard/forward is the leading scorer in the Landmark Conference, averaging 22.2 points per contest.
The Royals (18-5, 12-1 Landmark), who have already secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Landmark Conference championship tournament, had two double-figure scorers in Brittany Bontemps (11 points) and Kathleen Daly (10 points).
