SCRANTON, Pa. – Goucher's current losing streak dates
back to a 63-47 setback to Scranton on January 16. Today that skid
reached 10 games when the Gophers were beaten by the Lady Royals
for a second time this season, 81-58.
Although head coach Didi Cotton's Gophers never led the entire
game, they trailed by only two points midway through the first
half. But it was at that point that Scranton (20-4, 12-1 Landmark)
went on a 16-2 run, opening up a 29-13 advantage on a basket by
Sarah Gage with 4:45 remaining before halftime. Goucher managed to
knock its deficit down to 31-21 when Kelsey Myette
(Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) landed a shot
from three-point range with 3:09 left in the first half, but by the
time the two teams headed off the court at the break, the Lady
Royals were back on top by 17 points at 40-23.
Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre
Dame) notched her 11th double-double of the season as she
supplied the Gophers (5-17, 1-12 Landmark) with team-high totals of
16 points and 11 rebounds. Elizabeth von Ende (Leawood,
Kan./American Hebrew Academy) chipped in with 13
points.
Scranton's five starters combined to score only 29 points, but
Megan Kopecki accounted for 19 of them as she was the game's
leading scorer.
