Sea Gulls Fly Past Gophers

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury University used a balanced attack as it downed Goucher College 96-40 in non-conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon.
- After Salisbury (3-2) opened the game with a three-pointer, Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas / Cristo Rey Jesuit) converted a layup for Goucher (1-5) to make it 3-2 a minute in
- The Sea Gulls scored the next 10 points to build a 13-2 lead.
- Claire Flynn (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) was fouled on a three-point attempt at the 6:34 mark and sank all three free throws to halt the Salisbury run.
- The hosts held a 28-9 lead after one quarter.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn. / Haddam-Killingworth) had the first field goal for either team 2:10 into the quarter.
- Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) knocked down a three for the Gophers with just under three minutes left in the half.
- Salisbury took a 47-18 lead into intermission.
- Jorryn Avery (Glen Burnie, Md. / Severn School) had Goucher's first points of the second half with 6:33 left in the third.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) knocked down a three with just over four minutes left in the quarter.
- Quarles had a pair of baskets in the first four minutes of the final frame.
- Haggins has the final Gopher field goal of the game with just under two minutes to play.
- Salisbury shot 54.8% for the game and held the Gophers to 28.3% shooting.
- The Sea Gulls outrebounded Goucher 39-24.
- Quarles made all four of her field goal attempts and both of her free throws and finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
- Haggins was 4-7 from the floor and finished with nine points.
- Goucher is idle until Saturday, December 4 when it host Drew for its Landmark Conference opener. Tipoff is set for 4 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
