Gophers Drop Landmark Conference Opener to Drew

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting and unbeaten Drew University never trailed as it eased to an 81-38 Landmark Conference victory over Goucher College at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center Sunday afternoon.
- Drew (8-0, 1-0 Landmark) scored the game's first five points.
- Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) had Goucher's (1-8, 0-1) first point on a free throw just under three minutes into the game.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had the first Gopher field goal with 2:31 to play in the quarter.
- A three by the Rangers seconds before the end of the quarter gave them a 26-6 lead after one.
- McFadden had the first Goucher points of the third quarter, putting back her own miss just over two minutes into the quarter.
- Drew closed the half on a 13-0 run and took a 49-15 lead into the locker room.
- Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) scored on an offensive putback midway through the quarter to halt a 10-1 Drew run to start the second half.
- McFadden finished with six points in the third as the Rangers increased their lead by six.
- Drew took its largest lead, 80-30, midway through the fourth.
- Goucher closed the game on an 8-1 run including a three by Jorryn Avery (Glen Burnie, Md./Severn School) and a conventional three-point play by Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, Md./Mount Carmel).
- McFadden led the Gophers in scoring for the third straight game with 16 points, while also finishing with eight rebounds and four assists.
- Kees chipped in with six points off the bench.
- Drew shot 51.9% from the floor for the game and was 6-11 from three while limiting the Gophers to 24% shooting.
- The Rangers held a 38-33 rebounding advantage. Goucher held a 13-6 lead in second chance points.
- Goucher is idle until Thursday, December 30, when it hosts Notre Dame (Md.) in a 7 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
