Gophers Fall At Moravian in Return

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Playing its first game since December 12, the Goucher College women's basketball team dropped an 80-33 decision to Moravian University in Landmark Conference play Saturday afternoon at Johnston Hall.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) knocked down a contested three for Goucher (1-9, 0-2 Landmark) a minute in to tie the game 3-3.
- A basket by Ava Cox (Elkton, Md./Elkton) just over three minutes in again tied the game, 5-5.
- Moravian (4-9, 2-0) scored the game's next 12 points to open up a 17-5 lead with 1:48 left.
- A layup by Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) halted the Greyhound run.
- The hosts led 17-8 after one quarter.
- Moravian scored the first six points of the second quarter.
- A Carini basket at the 6:51 mark halted the Greyhound run and made it 23-11.
- Moravian reeled off six straight points before a basket by Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) 4:08 before halftime.
- Quarles converted a conventional three-point play with 2:43 on the clock.
- Moravian took a 42-18 lead into intermission.
- Cavoli had the first basket of the second half 45 seconds into the third quarter.
- Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) knocked down a jump shot with 2:32 left in the frame.
- Moravian led 63-23 with 10 minutes to go.
- The Greyhounds had the first 11 points of the fourth before Cavoli sank two free throws with 6:02 on the clock.
- Carini knocked down a pair of jumpers in the final two minutes.
- Carini paced Goucher with a career-best nine points, going 4-10 from the floor.
- Cavoli finished with seven points, while Quarles added six points off the bench.
- Goucher shot 27.3% overall and was 8-13 at the free throw line.
- Moravian held a 46-15 rebound advantage and shot 57.6% overall while going 9-14 at the charity stripe.
- Seven of the nine players who saw action for Goucher scored.
- The Gophers had been idle since December 12

- Goucher travels to Juniata on Wednesday night for a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home on Saturday, January 15 when they host Scranton for a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest. Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home games but the game can be seen on the Landmark Digital Network.
