Quarles Double-Double Paces Gophers at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas) registered her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Goucher College women's basketball team dropped a 62-50 decision to Juniata College in Landmark Conference play at Memorial Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
- Goucher (1-10, 0-3 Landmark) staked itself to a 6-0 lead a minute into the game on back-to-back threes by Claire Flynn (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin).
- Juniata (5-8, 1-2) held the Gophers scoreless the rest of the quarter as it opened up a 21-6 lead.
- Quarles broke the Goucher scoreless streak 1:46 into the quarter.
- A basket by Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) with just under seven minutes left cut the Eagle lead to 13, 23-10.
- The Gophers cut the lead to 13 two more times, the second on a Quarles basket with 4:59 before halftime.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) scored 29 seconds before halftime as the hosts went into the locker room with a 37-21 lead.
- Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) converted a driving layup 33 seconds into the half to open Goucher's scoring.
- After Juniata stretched its lead to 57-29, the Gophers scored the next six points and a McFadden basket with two minutes left made it 57-35.
- The hosts led 60-35 with 10 minutes to play.
- Both teams were scoreless in the fourth quarter until Cavoli knocked down a three 3:31 into the frame.
- Goucher held Juniata to just one field goal in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 15-2.
- A basket by Haggins with 31 seconds left closed out the scoring.
- Quarles posted season highs in both points and rebounds. 10 of her 11 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
- Carini set a career-high in scoring for the second straight game, recording 10 points off the bench while grabbing four rebounds.
- McFadden recorded nine points in her return to the lineup, crossing the 800-point mark for her career.
- Haggins, Cavoli and Flynn each chipped in with six points.
- The Gophers shot 29.9% overall and were 5-15 behind the arc and 5-10 at the free throw line.
- Juniata, which outrebounded Goucher 47-42, shot 40% overall and were 9-27 from deep and 5-10 at the stripe.
