Carini Scores Career-Best 17 Against Blue Jays

TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) had a career-best 17 points Wednesday night as the Goucher College women's basketball team dropped an 89-52 decision to Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference play at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Carini had the first basket of the game for Goucher (1-12 0-5 Landmark) that made it 5-2 at the 7:52 mark.
- A basket by Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) with 7:09 on the clock cut the Etown (12-2, 4-0) lead to 5-4.
- The Blue Jays used an 8-1 spurt to build a 13-5 lead midway through the quarter.
- After a Sydney Nwuli (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) basket with 3:15 left to make it 17-9, the Blue Jays closed the quarter on a 10-3 run to take a 27-12 lead through 10 minutes.
- After Carini scored just over a minute in on a fast break on an assist from Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), Etown scored nine straight to go up 39-14 with 5:26 left before halftime.
- A Haggins layup halted the Blue Jay run.
- A Carini jumper with 2:14 left were Goucher's final points of the half as Elizabethtown led 53-18 at the break.
- Carini scored 13 seconds into the second half.
- Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) had back-to-back layups at 8:03 and 7:35.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) knocked down a three with 3:31 on the clock.
- The guests carried a 75-32 lead into the final frame.
- Goucher outscored Elizabethtown 20-14 over the final 10 minutes.
- McFadden finished with 12 points in the quarter, going 3-5 from the floor and 5-6 at the free throw line.
- Carini was 4-6 from the floor in the final frame and added eight points as Goucher shot 53.8% in the fourth.
- Carini was 8-15 from the floor and also grabbed three rebounds.
- McFadden notched 12 points and five rebounds.
- Quarles added seven points and eight rebounds.
- The Gophers shot 35% for the game and were 2-8 behind the arc.
- Elizabethtown, which won its sixth straight, outrebounded the Gophers 49-26 and shot 51.4% for the contest.
- The Gophers committed a season-low 11 turnovers.

- Goucher returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Susquehanna for a 4 pm Landmark Conference tip.
- The Gophers return home next Wednesday, January 26, hosting Catholic in a 7 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home sporting events.
