McFadden, Haggins Reach Double Figures at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and freshman Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) finished with 18 and 15 points, respectively, as the Goucher College women's basketball team dropped a 77-52 decision to Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference play Saturday afternoon at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) gave Goucher (1-13, 0-6 Landmark) a 2-0 lead 16 seconds into the game.
- After Susquehanna (9-5, 2-4) scored eight of the next 10 points, a Carini basket at the 6:55 mark made it 8-6.
- The River Hawks scored the next 10 points before Sydney Nwuli (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) sank two free throws with 4:05 left in the quarter.
- The hosts held a 26-12 lead after one quarter.
- Back-to-back Haggins baskets in the first minute of the second cut the River Hawk lead to 10, 26-16.
- After Susquehanna scored the next five points, a McFadden three and a Haggins field goal made it 31-21 with 7:04 to go before halftime.
- Another Haggins basket just shy of the five-minute mark cut the lead to eight, 31-23.
- Leading 33-25, the River Hawks reeled off nine straight to open a 42-25 cushion with 2:54 to go in the half.
- Susquehanna held a 48-29 lead at the break.
- McFadden had Goucher's first field goal of the second half 46 seconds in.
- Susquehanna used a 17-0 run to go up 68-32 with just over three minutes left in the quarter.
- A McFadden basket in the final seconds made it a 71-36 game.
- Goucher scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter with a basket by Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) at the 3:25 mark capping the run.
- A Nwuli basket with 32 seconds left closed out the Goucher scoring as the Gophers outscored the River Hawks 16-6 in the final frame.
- In addition to her 18 points McFadden totaled five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
- Haggins, who's 15 points are a career high, was 7-16 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds.
- Carini was 4-9 from the floor and added nine points.
- The Gophers shot 36.7% overall but connected on just one of their 11 three-point attempts. Goucher was 7-13 at the free throw line.
- Susquehanna, which outrebounded Goucher 46-35, shot 43.3% overall, were 5-22 from long range and 14-18 at the stripe.

- Goucher is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Catholic in a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home sporting events.
