Blue Jays Pull Away From Gophers

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Host Elizabethtown jumped out to a 36-21 halftime lead en route to a 77-42 Landmark Conference women's basketball triumph against Goucher College Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium.
- Elizabethtown (16-3, 8-1 Landmark) scored the game's first six points.
- A three by Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) got Goucher (1-16, 0-9) on the board at the 6:34 mark.
- The Gophers cut the lead to three two more times, the second on a Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) basket with 4:24 left in the first.
- The Blue Jays scored the final eight points of the quarter and led 18-7 after 10 minutes.
- A Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) basket 2:44 into the frame snapped Goucher's field goal drought and made it 24-11.
- A three by Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) at the 4:38 mark cut the Etown lead to a dozen, 28-16.
- The hosts scored the next four points before a Carini three 1:34 before halftime made it 32-19.
- Etown carried a 36-21 lead into the locker room.
- Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) converted a putback on Goucher's first possession of the second half.
- Elizabethtown outscored the Gophers 9-1 before a basket by McFadden at the 5:29 mark.
- Haggins had back-to-back baskets wt 3:23 and 2:44 for the Gophers.
- The hosts led 56-33 with 10 minutes to play.
- Haggins had the first basket of the fourth for the Gophers 39 seconds in.
- Etown gradually pulled away, outscoring Goucher 21-9 in the final frame.
- McFadden led Goucher with 11 points and seven rebounds.
- Carini and Haggins contributed eight ponts apiece, with Haggins also grabbing eight rebounds.
- Cavoli knocked down a pair of threes and tallied six points, while Quarles finished with five points and eight rebounds.
- Goucher shot 26.9% overall, was 4-13 behind the arc and 2-7 at the free throw line.
- Etown shot 50.7% from the floor and was 8-11 at the stripe while connecting on just one of its 10 three-point attempts.
- The Blue Jays, who won their fourth straight, held a 53-33 rebound advantage.

- The Gophers return to the Decker Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday, February 12, hosting Susquehanna in a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest. Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home sporting events.
