Kyla Smith Named Landmark Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week
TOWSON, Md. - Graduate student Kyla Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton) of the Goucher College women's basketball team was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
In last Wednesday's game against Stevenson, Smith poured in 43 points on 16-33 shooting, setting a Landmark Conference single-game scoring record and finishing two points shy of Goucher's NCAA-era single-game scoring record of 45 set by Renie Amoss. Her 43 points are the second-highest single-game total in Division III this season. Smith also grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She added 14 points in Saturday's setback at sixth-ranked Christopher Newport to average 28.5 points per game.
Through four games, Smith is averaging 24.2 points per game to rank 12th nationally and first in the Landmark Conference.
Goucher is back in action on Wednesday, November 30 when it hosts Gallaudet in a 6 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
