Smith, Kuhlman Reach Double Figures at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Kyla Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton) and Alexis Kuhlman (Mount Airy, Md./Herndon) scored 26 and 12 points, respectively, but the Goucher College women's basketball team was downed by Moravian University 77-50 in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening at Johnston Hall.
- Moravian (9-7, 2-3 Landmark) jumped out to an 8-0 lead five minutes into the game.
- Smith had Goucher's (2-14, 0-5) first basket off an offensive rebound at the 4:56 mark.
- Trailing 10-2, the Gophers closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run and a late Smith layup cut Moravian's lead to two, 12-10, after 10 minutes.
- The Greyhounds scored the first six points of the second quarter before a Smith basket at the 8:07 mark halted the run.
- Moravian used a 13-3 run to build a 16-point cushion, 31-15, with 3:54 to go in the half.
- The two teams traded baskets before a late Moravian push increased the lead to 20 at the break, 39-19.
- A Smith three 3:32 into the third ticked the lead down to 19, 45-26.
- Kuhlman again got the lead down to 19 on a three of her own at the 2:54 mark that made it 52-33.
- Kuhlman had the final eight points of the quarter for the Gophers as the guests whittled the lead down to 16, 54-38, with 10 minutes to go.
- Moravian opened the fourth with eight straight points to make it a 62-38 game with 7:59 to go.
- Five straight points by Smith pushed the lead back down to 19, but another 8-0 Greyhound run made it 70-43 with 4:36 left.
- Smith finished 12-32 from the floor and knocked down a pair of three pointers while also grabbing five rebounds.
- Smith recorded double figures in scoring for the 14th time in 15 games and scored at least 20 points for the eighth time this season.
- Kuhlman was 3-6 behind the arc and 4-8 overall while hauling in seven rebounds.
- Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) chipped in with six points and five boards, while Kendra Lawrence (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception) grabbed 11 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, and added four points.
- Goucher shot 31% overall and was 5-21 behind the arc while going 3-6 at the free throw line. The Gophers were nipped in the rebounding department 47-43.
- Moravian shot 43% overall and was 16-22 at the free throw line while making one of its four three point attempts.
