Greyhounds Pull Away From Gophers in Fourth

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Moravian University outscored Goucher College 22-11 in the fourth quarter to put up a 60-48 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (3-19, 0-11 Landmark) led 6-2 following an Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) layup midway through the half.
- After Moravian (13-9, 6-5) got within two, the Gophers outscored the Greyhounds 7-3 and a Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) basket made it 13-7 with a minute to go in the quarter.
- The hosts carried that lead into the second quarter.
- Moravian pulled within three, 15-12, two minutes into the second half.
- A three by Kyla Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton) with 6:23 left before halftime put the Gophers up 18-12.
- The 'Hounds pulled within three, 20-17, before a McFadden basket and two Smith free throws in the final seconds put the Gophers up 24-17 at intermission.
- A basket by McFadden a minute into the second half upped Goucher's lead to nine, 26-17.
- The Gophers took their largest lead, 31-21, with 6:50 on the clock on a putback by Kendra Lawrence (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception).
- With the hosts leading 37-29 with 4:10 left, Moravian closed the half on a 9-0 run and took a 38-37 lead into the fourth.
- After Moravian scored the first points of the final frame, a basket by Alexis Kuhlman (Mount Airy, Md./Herndon) with 7:01 remaining halfted the Greyhound run.
- After an Amy Morgan layup for the Greyhounds, a Kuhlman three with 6:34 to go cut the lead to two, 44-42.
- The guests outscored Goucher 11-3 over the next two-plus minutes to build a 53-44 lead on two Morgan free throws with 4:11 left.
- After a Lawrence layup at the 3:20 mark cut Moravian's lead to seven, the visitors scored the next four points to take a 57-46 lead with 2:09 on the clock.
- Moravian made three of its four free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
- Smith scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half and shot 7-18 for the game while knocking down a pair of three-pointers. She also grabbed nine rebounds.
- Smith reached double figures in scoring for the 11th straight game and 20th time in 21 contests.
- McFadden finished with 11 points on 5-9 shooting off the bench while grabbing three rebounds.
- Lawrence made four of her five field goal attempts and recorded nine points and seven rebounds, while Kuhlman added seven points.
- Goucher shot 39.2% overall, was 4-15 from behind the arc and made four of its six free throw attempts.
- Moravian took 17 more trips to the free throw line, going 17-23. The Gophers limited the Greyhounds to 30.3% shooting, including 12.1% (4-33) in the opening 20 minutes.
- The guests held a 46-37 rebounding advantage and forced 28 Gopher turnovers.
- Goucher hits the road for its next two games, starting with a Saturday date at Drew tipping at 2 pm.
- The Gophers wrap up the season at home next Saturday, February 18, hosting Elizabethtown in a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
