Rangers Pull Away From Gophers Late

TOWSON, Md. - Drew University outscored Goucher College 13-3 over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as it pulled away for a 60-48 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sorts and Recreation Center.
- The lead changed hands three times in the early going before a Brianna Johnson three put Goucher (0-7, 0-2 Landmark) up 8-5 3:18 into the game.
- The Gophers and Drew (2-3, 1-1) exchanged the lead four more times, with a Darby Sherman three 36 seconds before the end of the quarter put Goucher up 14-12.
- Goucher led 16-12 before a Ranger shot at the buzzer made it 16-14 through 10 minutes.
- Drew scored the first six points of the second to take a 21-16 lead midway through the quarter.
- A three by Maiya Villanueva with 4:18 on the clock halfted the Goucher drought.
- The Rangers led 25-19 with just under three minutes left in the half before a 6-2 Gopher spurt capped by a Johnson basket pulled the Gophers within two, 27-25, at intermission.
- Two free throws by Merci Turner 44 seconds into the second half tied the game 27-27.
- Drew outscored its hosts 11-4 over the next six-plus minutes to build a 38-31 lead with 2:48 on the clock.
