Ninth-Ranked Catholic Remains Unbeaten Against Gophers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - No. 9 Catholic University remained unbeaten with a 95-53 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory over Goucher College at Franny Murray Court Wednesday evening.
- Catholic (16-0, 9-0 Landmark) scored the game's first seven points.
- The Gophers (1-15, 1-8) pulled within 12-9 at the 6:17 mark after back-to-back threes by Julia Cavoli and Merci Turner.
- An 8-0 Cardinal spurt pushed the lead back to 11, 20-9, with 4:46 on the clock.
- The hosts led 32-10 after 10 minutes.
- Catholic scored the first seven points of the second quarter before a Darby Sherman basket two minutes in snapped the Gopher drought.
- The Cardinals led by as many as 36 in the second before Goucher closed the half on a 9-4 run to trail 53-22 at the break.
- Catholic took its largest lead of the third quarter, 71-30, with 3:37 remaining in the frame.
- Goucher scored the next four points, including a Sherman three with 2:06 on the clock.
- The Cardinals led 76-36 with 10 minutes to go.

- Two free throws by Maiya Villanueva with three seconds left closed out the scoring.
- Turner paced Goucher with 17 points and eight rebounds while also recording a pair of steals. She was 3-6 behind the arc

- Cavoli knocked down two of her three three point attempts and finished with eight points, while Sherman added six.
- Goucher shot 29.5% overall, was 8-31 behind the arc, and 9-20 at the free throw line.
- Catholic shot 43.9% overall, was 7-28 from three and 16-17 at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals held a 54-40 rebound advantage.
- Goucher travels to Drew University on Saturday for a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest.
