Gophers Set Single-Game Three-Point Record Against Susquehanna

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's basketball team knocked down a single-game program record 11 three-pointers, but visiting Susquehanna University pulled away in the second half for a 78-48 Landmark Conference victory Wednesday night at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (1-19, 1-12 Landmark) led 11-8 midway through the first quarter following Darby Sherman's second three-pointer of the night.
- A Merci Turner three put the Gophers in front 14-10 with 3:29 to go in the opening period, followed by a Brianna Johnson basket that made it 16-10.
- Susquehanna (13-7, 8-5) closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 20-16 lead through 10 minutes.
- A Julia Cavoli three capped a 5-0 Gopher spurt to open the second, making it 21-20 just over a minute in.
- The two teams traded baskets, with a Turner bucket with 7:00 before halftime putting the hosts back in front 23-22.
- Six straight River Hawk points gave them a 28-23 lead with 5:26 on the clock.
- Susquehanna led 35-26 with 1:28 to go before intermission and took a 37-29 lead into the locker room.
- The guests opened the second half with 16 straight points to go up 53-29 at the 5:41 mark.
- Briyah Haggins ended the Gopher drought with a basket at 5:27.
- Goucher got the lead down to 21, 55-34, on a Haggins deuce with 4:18 on the clock.
- The River Hawks built a 65-39 lead after three quarters.
- Susquehanna scored the first nine points of the fourth to take a 74-39 lead.
- Turner's three with 6:44 to go was the first Goucher points of the final frame.
- Haggins and Louise Lavaux also had threes in the last period for Goucher.
- Goucher's 11 threes eclipses the previous single-game mark of 10 triples in a game, set against Mary Washington in February of 2001 and matched earlier this season against McDaniel.
- Turner reached double figures for the sixth consecutive contest with 16 points while grabbing five rebounds.
- Haggins narrowly missed a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, going 5-11 from the floor.
- Sherman registered a career-high 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
- The Gophers shot 29% overall were 11-28 (39.3%) from three and 1-4 at the free throw line.
- Susquehanna, which currently sits in fourth place in the Landmark standings, shot 40% overall, was 4-22 behind the arc and 10-11 at the stripe.
