Gophers Set Three-Point Records, Fall to Colonels in Finale

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Goucher College women's basketball team knocked down a school-record 13 threes against host Wilkes University in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon. However this was not enough to hold off the Colonels in the 80-57 Landmark Conference loss at the Marts Athletic Center.
- Briyah Haggins kicked off the scoring for the Gophers (1-24, 1-17 Landmark) with back-to-back threes, giving Goucher an early 6-0 lead, just over two minutes into the game.
- Maiya Villanueva added to the Gophers lead, ending a 4-0 run from Wilkes (9-16, 5-12 Landmark) with a two three-pointers pulling the Gophers ahead 15-6.
- With 1:48 remaining in the quarter, Julia Cavoli joined the scoring with a three-point shot.
- The Gophers led at the end of the quarter 23-16
- Goucher answered an early score from the Colonels, with a made layup by Brianna Johnson (9:36).
- Wilkes pulled ahead, going on a 17-2 scoring run, which was ended by a made three from Merci Turner with 3:22 remaining in the half.
- The Colonels ended the half with a 9-0 run, putting them ahead 44-30.
- Cavoli began the scoring for the Gophers with a made three-point shot less than a minute into the game.
- The Gophers cut Wilkes lead with back-to-back three point shots by Turner and Villanueva, with seven minutes remaining in the quarters.
- Sherman joined the three-point action on the night, ending a three-minute scoreless drought for Goucher (0:55).
- Goucher held Wilkes scoreless for the first two minutes of the quarter, with scores by Haggins and Zion McCoy cutting the lead for the Colonels.
- Turner ended the games two minute scoreless drought, with a layup.
- A jump-shot by Haggins stopped the 6-0 run by Wilkes, with 2:39 remaining in the game.

- The Gophers shot 35.6% overall, but outshot Wilkes from beyond the arc, making 13 of their 31 attempts. The 13 threes breaks the single game record of 11 set back on January 31 against Susquehanna.
- Goucher also finished the season with 172 three-pointers, smashing the previous single-season record of 108 set last season.
- The Colonels outrebounded Goucher 47-38. The team shot 45.7% overall, but connected just 4 of the 23 three point attempts. Wilkes shot 60% at the charity line.
