Women's Lacrosse 25th Anniversary Celebration: Mackenzie Nase Interviews Kim Donoghue
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1996. The squad defeated Roanoke on campus 28-16 in the NCAA Quarterfinals and then lost 21-12 in the NCAA Semifinals 25 years ago.
If we did not have the pandemic, we would have probably honored the team throughout the season. We wanted to build that connection between the past and the present, so we had current Goucher women's lacrosse players interview members of the 1996 Final Four team over zoom in May.
Our first interview is with Kim Donoghue, who is a 1997 graduate of Goucher College. Donoghue was a two-time All-Capital Athletic Conference second-team defender, and she earned All-Central Region in 1996. Donoghue, a Havertown, Pa., native, played 19 matches with two goals on six shots in 1996. She recorded four ground balls in the win against Roanoke, while she recorded five ground balls and a goal in the national semifinals. Donoghue was also a three-time all-conference performer for field hockey with first-team recognition in 1994 and 1996. She is currently an admission counselor at her alma mater.
Rising senior Mackenzie Nase (Weare, N.H./John Stark Regional) intervierwed Donoghue. The midfielder/defender has appeared in 20 games with 19 starts with 14 goals for 14 points with 37 ground balls, 25 draw controls, and 25 caused turnovers in her collegiate career. The Gophers have not played a game since March 10, 2020, due to the pandemic.
The two discuss why Donoghue came to Goucher, the rise of the women's lacrosse team, and the field hockey success helping the women's lacrosse team. The two also discuss the 1996 women's lacrosse team induction into the Hall of Fame and the size of the lacrosse stick in 1996. We will also be releasing short clips of this conversation on Instagram at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.
