Late Goals Separate Blazers from Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Hood College broke an 8-8 tie by scoring all three of the game's goals in the fourth quarter en route to an 11-8 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College at Beldon Field Wednesday afternoon.
- Mackenzie Nase (Weare, N.H./John Stark) scored 1:18 into the game for Goucher (1-6).
- A goal by Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) at the 10:14 mark upped the Gopher lead to 2-0. Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) assisted on the goal.
- Hood (2-3) scored three goals in a span of 3:13 to take a 3-2 lead with just under six minutes left.
- Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charter for the Arts) tied the game for Goucher with 3:35 on the clock.
- The Gophers scored twice in the final 37 seconds, with Gazzola scoring to put Goucher up 4-3.
- Emily Burk (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) beat the first quarter horn to put the hosts on top 5-3 after one.
- Gazzola and Green scored at 11:00 and 9:49 to extend the Goucher lead to 7-3.
- The Blazers broke a 17-minute scoring drought with a goal by Liz Connelly with 3:50 left.
- Hood scored two more times, the final goal with 39 ticks on the clock, to pull within one, 7-6, at intermission.
- Burk registered her second goal of the game with 7:56 left in the third to reclaim a two-goal advantage for the Gophers.
- Laura Skorobatsch scored two goals for the visitors at 5:56 and 2:59 to tie the game 8-8.
- Skorobatsch scored the first two goals for the Blazers at 10:20 and 7:29 to put the guests up 10-8.
- Hood added an insurance tally with exactly five minutes on the clock.
- Goucher put three shots on goal in the final frame but could not find the back of the net.
- Hood outshot Goucher 30-23 on the afternoon.
- Gazzola paced the Gophers with three goals while Burk and Green each added two tallies.
- Gazzola extended her goal scoring streak dating back to 2019 to 15 games.
- Lucy Covington (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) had three caused turnovers for the Gophers.
- Both teams recorded 11 draw controls, with Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc./Nicolet) winning six for Goucher.
- Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 14 saves in goal for the hosts and also picked up four ground balls.
- Goucher returns to action on Monday, March 21, when the Gophers travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 5:00 contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, March 30, hosting Notre Dame (Md.) at 7 pm at Beldon Field.
