Gazzola's Six Goals Not Enough in Conference Opener

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Host Juniata College jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter en route to a 19-7 Landmark Conference win over Goucher College in women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
- Juniata (8-1, 1-0 Landmark) scored 45 seconds into the game and held a 3-0 lead 3:35 in.
- Goucher (1-8, 0-1) got on the board exactly five minutes in as Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North hagerstown) converted a man-up opportunity to make it 3-1.
- The Eagles scored three times in a span of 3:09 to take a 6-1 lead with 4:02 on the clock.
- After Juniata scored 19 seconds in, Gazzola's second goal of the game came at the 11:31 mark off a feed from Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc./Nicolet).
- The Eagles reeled off the next four goals to take an 11-2 lead with 2:08 to go before intermission.
- Gazzola scored her second man-up goal with 1:19 on the clock then beat the horn with a goal with two seconds to go to pull the Gophers within seven, 11-4, at halftime.
- Grace Gibbs scored back-to-back goals for Juniata at 13:50 and 12:54.
- Gazzola's fifth goal of the game came at the 8:53 mark, with Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charter for the Arts) recording an assist on the play.
- Emily Burk (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) scored off a feed from Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) 40 seconds later.
- The Eagles scored four times in the final 6:55, including twice in the final minute, to build a 17-6 lead.
- The hosts tacked on goals at 14:05 and 5:29 to make it 19-6.
- Gazzola scored an unassisted goal with 50 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
- Gazzola's six goals put her one shy of 100 for her career.
- Juniata outshot Goucher 40-12.
- Oren posted five caused turnovers and five ground balls in addition to six draw controls.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made her first collegiate start in goal and made 12 saves over the first three quarters. Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made one save in the final quarter.
- Goucher is back in action on Wednesday, March 30, when it hosts Notre Dame (Md.) in a 7 pm non-conference contest at Beldon Field.
