Gazzola Scores 100th Career Goal, Gophers Rout Notre Dame

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) scored seven goals, including the 100th of her career, as the Goucher College women's lacrosse team downed Notre Dame of Maryland University 16-6 Wednesday evening at Beldon Field.
- Notre Dame (2-3) took a 1-0 lead 1:10 into the game.
- Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charter for the Arts) tied the game for Goucher (2-8) at the 12:13 mark.
- Gazzola's first goal of the game gave her 100 for her career in her 31st career game with 9:22 left in the first.
- Gazzola converted a free position with just under five minutes to go, then Green's second goal of the game with 1:15 on the clock made it 4-1.
- First year Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored her first collegiate goal 1:44 into the secondd quarter on a free position shot
- Goucher made it 6-1 with 11:24 to go before halftime as Gazzola converted a free position.
- Green's third goal came just shy of halfway in the second to make it 7-1.
- Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) scored with 2:50 on the clock to up Goucher's lead to 8-1.
- The Gators scored with just over a minute remaining to cut the lead to 8-2 at the break.
- Gazzola kicked off four straight Goucher goals with her tally 1:34 into the second half.
- Emily Burk (Nottingham, Md.) scored at the 12:40 mark, followed by Gazzola goals 1:19 apart that made it 12-2 with 7:26 left in the third.
- After the Gators scored at 5:47, Flinn notched her second goal of the game with exactly 3:00 left.
- Minami Ushijima (Nishinomiya, Japan) scored with just over 10 minutes to go after Notre Dame had opened the fourth quarter scoring at the 11:40 mark.
- Burk converted a free position with 8:13 left, while Gazzola closed out the Gopher scoring with her tally with 3:56 on the clock.
- Goucher outshot Notre Dame 25-18 and finished 4-6 on free position shots.
- Gazzola finished with nine points as she added two assists. She now has 106 goals for her career.
- Green notched three goals, while Flinn and Burk each had two goals, with Flinn adding an assist.
- Gazzola also picked up five ground balls and had three draw controls.
- Burk and Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc./Nicolet) each had four draw controls.
- Smith added three caused turnovers.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) started in goal and made one save in the first half before Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a pair of saves in the final 30 minutes.
- Goucher returns to action on Saturday, April 2, when it hosts Susquehanna in a 1 pm Landmark Conference game at Beldon Field.
