Greyhounds Race Past Gophers

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Host Morvaian University broke a 2-2 tie after the first quarter by scoring six goals in the second en route to a 16-4 Landmark Conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field.
- Moravian (6-5, 3-0) scored 1:15 into the game to take an early lead.
- The Greyhounds made it 2-0 with 2:33 to go in the first.
- Goucher (2-11, 0-3) got on the board with 1:45 to go in the first as Mackenzie Nase (Weare, N.H./John Stark) scored with Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) assisting.
- Just over a minute later, Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charter for the Arts) tied the game, with Nase assisting.
- The Greyhounds reclaimed the lead 3:34 into the second on a Lindsey Strohl tally.
- Moravian scored all six goals in the second, outshooting the Gophers 14-4.
- The Greyhounds scored their first goal of the second half with 8:17 remaining on a free position tally.
- The hosts tacked on five goals in the third to lead 13-2 with 15 minures to go.
- Two goals in the first 2:05 of the fourth increased Moravian's lead to 15-2.
- Emily Burk (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) broke the Goucher scoring drought as she scored a man-up goal with 9:28 left. Nase added her second assist.
- Green's second goal of the game came with just under seven minutes to go, with Gazzola tacking on an assist.
- Moravian held a 42-10 shot advantage on the afternoon.
- Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc.) had eight draw controls for the Gophers and has now recorded 30 in the past three games.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made 12 saves through the first three quarters before Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made five stops in the final 15 minutes.
- Lewis also had a pair of caused turnovers.
- Gazzola saw her 20-game goal scoring streak snapped as she was held scoreless for the first time since 2019.
- Goucher returns to action Thursday, April 14, heading to Scranton for a 4 pm Landmark Conference game.
- The Gophers are back home Saturday, April 23, hosting Drew at 1 pm.
