Bulldogs Ease Past Gophers in Goucher Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting DeSales University jumped out to a 6-2 lead after one quarter as it defeated Goucher College 16-3 in non-conference women's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- DeSales (1-0) took a 1-0 lead just 38 seconds into the game and led 3-0 2:48 in.
- The Gophers (0-2) scored the next two goals to cut the lead to 3-2.
- At the 7:51 mark, first year Katherine Luetgens (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) recorded her first collegiate goal to make it 2-1.
- Katie Kebrich (Towson, Md./Towson) scored with 5:13 left in the quarter to cut the lead to 3-2.
- Amelia Lazzini (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) assisted on the goal.
- The Bulldogs scored three times in the final 4:23 of the quarter and a goal with two seconds on the clock made it 6-2.
- Goucher held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second until the final minute, when DeSales scored twice in the final 27 seconds to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.
- Gopher goalie Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made five saves in the period.
- DeSales upped its lead to 9-2 just under two minutes into the quarter.
- The Bulldogs scored three more times to take a 12-2 lead with 4:33 on the clock.
- Kebrich stopped DeSales' run with her second goal of the game with 2:03 left.
- Four different players scored for the Bulldogs in the fourth.
- DeSales had a pair of man-up goals and also recorded a man-down tally with 1:41 remaining.
- DeSales held a 35-11 shot advantage on the afternoon.
- Goucher and the Bulldogs each registered 11 draw controls. Kebrich led Goucher with three draws.
- Luetgens, Lazzini, Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) and Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) each had two draw controls.
- Christ made five saves in the opening 30 minutes before giving way to Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) in goal, who made four saves in the second half.
- Luetgens also had a team-high three ground balls.
- DeSales goalie Michaele Regan made three saves, while Marina Bradley led the guests offensively with three goals and an assist.
- Goucher returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Stockton for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers are on the road for their next three games and return home Wednesday, March 8 when they host Trinity Washington in a 7 pm game at Beldon Field.
