TOWSON, Md. - In a game that saw a two-plus hour delay for inclement weather, visiting Scranton downed Goucher College 21-0 in Landmark Conference women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
The Royals (7-7, 4-1 Landmark) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, and had made it 11-0 at the 9:59 mark when the game was halted for lightning in the area. The game resumed approximately 2:15 later.
Scranton led Goucher (3-12, 0-5) 13-0 at halftime then scored five goals in the third and three more in the fourth. The Royals had 14 different players score.
Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) had a pair of caused turnovers for Goucher, while Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had three shots as the Royals outshot the Gophers 34-6. Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made four saves in the first half for the Gophers, while Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made three stops over the final 30 minutes.
Goucher returns to action next Saturday at Susquehanna for a 1 pm contest. The Gophers close out the season at home Saturday, April 29, hosting Moravian at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
