TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Elizabethtown College staked itself to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter as it went on to shut out Goucher College 12-0 in Landmark Conference women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
The Blue Jays (4-4, 1-0 Landmark) scored 3:34 into the game and got goals from four different players as it opened up a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes. Elizabethtown scored four more times in the second to take a 10-0 lead into intermission, then scored twice more in the third.
Goucher (2-6, 0-1) goalie Sydney Lewis made 11 saves in goal for the Gophers, while Alayna Trynosky and Rachel Murphy combined for eight saves en route to the shutout. Molly Smith had a pair of caused turnovers, four ground balls and three draw controls for the hosts. Emily Burk finished with eight draw controls and took a team-high four shots for Goucher. The Gophers won 13 of the game's 16 draws, with Katherine Luetgens winning the other two.
Elizabethtown held a 29-16 shot advantage on the afternoon.
Goucher returns to action Thursday evening when it travels to Scranton for a 7 pm Landmark Conference game. The Gophers return home Saturday, April 6, hosting Wilkes at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
