Gophers Pull Away for First Landmark Win of Season

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's lacrosse scored four straight goals in a span of 2:14 in the fourth quarter to pull away from Wilkes University for a 15-10 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Bailey Schneeman scored 2:54 into the game for Goucher (3-8, 1-3 Landmark) to give the Gophers an early 1-0 lead.
- The Colonels (2-10, 0-4) scored twice in a 39-second span to go up 2-1 with just over 10 minutes left in the first.
- Camden West scored a man-up goal with 3:46 on the clock to tie the game 2-2.
- Wilkes went back into the lead 1:27 into the second.
- Another extra attacker goal, this one by Emily Burk on an assist by Amelia Lazzini, tied the game 9:49 before halftime
- The two teams entered intermission deadlocked 3-3.
- Burk and Tatiana Emeruwa scored 51 seconds apart to put Goucher in front 5-3 with 13:38 on the clock.
- After Wilkes pulled within 5-4, Burk's third goal of the game made it 6-4 at the 10:29 mark.
- The Colonels scored the next two goals to knot the game 6-6.
- Schneeman and Emeruwa scored 1:05 apart to put the Gophers back into the lead, 8-6, with 3:23 left.
- The guests closed within 8-7 at the end of the third.
- West scored 40 seconds into the final frame to put Goucher up 9-7.
- The Colonels again cut the lead to one with 12:43 on the clock.
- Katherine Luetgens' first goal of the game with 9:54 left sparked a four-goal run for Goucher.
- After Molly Smith scored at the 9:23 mark, Burk had two goals in a 31-second span to make it 13-8 with 7:40 left.
- Lazzini assisted on both Burk goals.
- West scored with 1:43 on the clock while Lazzini scored with 17 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
- Wilkes edged Goucher in shots 27-26, while the Gophers held a 19-10 lead in draw controls.
- Sydney Lewis recorded eight saves in goal for Goucher.
- Burk finished with five goals and added two caused turnovers, three ground balls and five draw controls.
- West registered three goals and two assists, while Emeruwa and Schneeman each scored twice.
- Lazzini tallied three assists.
- Luetgens and Charlotte Bloom each finished with a pair of caused turnovers, with Luetgens collecting seven draw controls.
- Smith recorded six draw controls on the afternoon.
- Goucher earned its first Landmark Conference win since April 23, 2019 against Juniata. The Gophers did not play any Landmark games in 2020 and did not compete in 2021.
- Goucher travels to Catholic on Wednesday for a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, April 17, entertaining Susquehanna at 4 pm at Beldon Field.
