TOWSON, MD — "Hat tricks" by Alex
Bauernschub (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale Prep) and Dee
Moser (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) propelled Goucher to a
9-0 triumph over Gallaudet today that improved the Gophers' seeding
in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference championship
tournament.
With the win, the Gophers (3-12-1, 1-6 CAC) secured the No. 7 seed
and will play second-seeded Catholic in the opening round of the
tournament this Saturday.
Katie Miller (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) had a hand
in five of Goucher's nine goals, including the first three. She
picked up an assist on a goal by Moser at 16:04, tallied a goal of
her own at 17:26 and was awarded another assist on the first of
Bauernschub's three goals at 19:34.
Miller knocked in her second goal of the contest at 77:00 to move
into a tie with Alison Healy (1998-2000) for second place in career
goals at Goucher. It was the senior's team-leading ninth goal of
the season and 34th of her career with the Gophers.
Bauernschub put the Gophers up 4-0 with her second goal at 27:40
and then completed her hat trick with 1:08 remaining in the first
half.
Moser, who didn't score a single goal in the first 15 games of the
season, notched her second at 34:11 and third at 59:10.
Ellie Taylor (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) and
Ali Philippides (West Simsbury,
CT/Kingswood-Oxford) were both awarded a pair of assists
in the victory, plus Philippides achieved the first goal of her
collegiate career in the final minute of the contest.
