MADISON, N.J. - Goucher started today's Landmark Conference game against Drew playing one player short and was forced to play large portions of the contest with only eight field players. That eventually caught up to the Gophers as they trailed only 1-0 at halftime but saw the Rangers pull away in the second half for a 5-0 victory.
The Rangers (2-3-2, 1-0 Landmark) finished with a 35-1 advantage in shots, which forced freshman goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, MA/Algonquin Regional) to make 15 saves.
The game remained scoreless until the 35th minute when Kim Miranowic received a pass from Alyssa Goodman on her left foot and tucked the ball inside the near post.
The Gophers (3-4, 0-1 Landmark Conference) had their best chance to score in the first half, approximately eight minutes before Miranowic's goal, but goalie Ann Mularz turned away a shot by Sisley Pumilia (Chesterfield, NH/Keene) for her only save of the contest.
Goodman scored twice in the second half for Drew, the first time at 52:36 to provide the Rangers with a 2-0 lead and then at 72:00 to put the Rangers comfortably ahead, 4-0.
