TOWSON, Md. - Despite a career-high 22-save performance from freshman goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, MA/Algonquin Regional), Goucher bowed at home to Susquehanna, 3-0, today in the first Landmark Conference game played on Beldon Field.
Despite a 25-2 advantage in shots, the Crusaders (6-4, 1-1 Landmark) led only 1-0 at halftime. The only goal of the first half was scored at 39:36 by Michelle Flick.
Flick also accounted for both of Susquehanna's goals in the second half. She provided the Crusaders with a 2-0 lead with her second goal at 74:16 and then completed her "hat trick" in the final minute of play.
Meredith Tompeck, who went the distance in goal for the Crusaders, had to make only one save on the three Goucher shots she faced to earn the save.
Matthews, who has started all nine games this season for Goucher (3-6, 0-2 Landmark), raised her save percentage to .814 with her effort today.
