FREDERICK, Md. – Goucher overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with Hood today in a game that was delayed for more than an hour because of lightning and then halted after just one overtime period due to darkness.
Jessica Devine accounted for both of Hood's goals, putting the Blazers (5-4-1) ahead 1-0 at 39:39 and then making the score 2-0 with her second goal at 50:16.
Both of Goucher's goals were scored by the same player as well: Sisley Pumilia (Chesterfield, N.H./Keene) put the Gophers (4-3-1) on the scoreboard at 63:50 and then created a 2-2 tie when she tallied her team-leading 14th goal of the season at 74:54.
The first goal was assisted by Debbie Cohen (Austin, Texas/Lasa) and the second by McKenna Wilkinson (Keene, N.H./Keene).
Pumilia has now scored at least one goal in seven of her team's eight games this season.
The Blazers finished with a decided edge in shots, getting off a total of 28 compared to 12 for Goucher. Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) played the entire contest in goal for the Gophers, making 11 saves during regulation and a 12th stop in overtime to preserve the tie.
"It might have been the worst first half we played all season," Goucher head coach Tati Korba commented after the game. "The second half didn't start out any better, but once we fell behind by two goals, something kicked in and all of a sudden we started to play better than we have at any point this season.
"It was a remarkable turnaround. We showed a tremendous amount of character out there to pick ourselves up and then play the way we did."
