SCRANTON, Pa. – The leading scorer in the Landmark Conference struck again today, but her unassisted goal was the only one Goucher was able to produce in a 5-1 loss to Scranton.
The Royals (10-7, 3-2 Landmark) led 3-0 at the conclusion of the opening period, but hadn't added to that advantage in the second half by the time sophomore midfielder/forward Sisley Pumilia (Spofford, N.H./Keene) got the Gophers (6-8-1, 0-4 Landmark) on the scoreboard by tallying her 22nd goal of the season at 63:44.
Pumilia accounted for all six shots the Gophers were able to get off in today's game. She managed two shots in the first half, both of which were stopped by the starting goaleeper for Scranton, Caitlin Byrne. Caitlin Manuso replaced Byrne in the nets to begin the second half, and although she surrendered the goal, she also made saves on two shots by Pumilia.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead just 6:36 into the contest on a goal by Emily McPhee. Goals by Kristi Cordier at 14:11 and Eileen Sodano at 25:13 closed out the scoring in the first half.
After the Gophers closed to within 3-1 on Pumilia's goal, the Royals responded with goals by Alana Bencivengo at 71:50 and Sodano again at 77:45.
