BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher unleashed a total of 26 shots this
afternoon on the way to a 2-0 victory over Notre Dame (Md.).
The Gophers (2-4) turned one of the eight shots they got off in the first half into a goal by Sophie DeVincentis (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) at 11:44. They scored again in the 53rd minute, this time it was a goal by Kristen Gartside (Sparta, N.J./Sparta).
For both DeVincentis and Gartside, it was their first goals of the season. Sarah Eaby ( New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) set up the game-winning goal by DeVincentis and Nicole Sanfilippo (Kew Gardens, N.Y./The Wheatley School) was awarded an assist on Gartside's goal.
"I was very proud of the way we played today," head coach Tati Korba said of her Gophers after the non-conference game. "We were disciplined and I felt we showed a lot of great leadership. We stuck to the game plan, and I said that if we were able to do that, we could come away from today's game with the result we wanted."
The Gators (1-5) were limited to six shots the entire contest and junior goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) needed to make only three saves to register her second shutout of the season.
