TOWSON, Md. — Despite an 11-save performance out of junior
goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin
Regional), Goucher suffered a 1-0 loss to Susquehanna this
afternoon in a Landmark Conference game played on Beldon Field.
Matthews attained a milestone in the 52nd minute when she turned away a shot by Susquehanna's Alicia Muldoon. It was the 400th save of her career and she's only the fourth goalkeeper in the history of Goucher's women's soccer program to reach that number.
The only goal of the contest was scored by Abby Montgomery of the Crusaders at 56:06. Gabrielle Magenta picked up an assist on the play.
The Crusaders (5-5-3, 2-1 Landmark) finished with a 21-3 advantage in shots. Alyssa Kemmerer, who played all 90 minutes in goal for Susquehanna, had to make saves on two of the three shots the Gophers (3-8-1, 0-3 Landmark) got off to earn the shutout.
