Gophers Find Two Goals Not Enough Against Eagles

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's first Landmark Conference game of the season turned out to be a rather high-scoring affair in which Juniata jumped out to a 3-0 lead and went on to down head coach Tati Korba's Gophers, 5-2.
Goals by Caitlin Bigelow at 9:53, Lauren Brant at 29:04 and Heather Hodge at 33:01 staked the Eagles (5-3, 1-0 Landmark) to the 3-0 advantage, but the Gophers (1-4-1, 0-1 Landmark) closed to within 3-1 before the end of the first half thanks to a goal by sophomore forward Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) at 42:59.
Jennifer Graves restored Juniata's lead to three with an unassisted goal at 63:58, but Kettner tallied her second goal of the game and third of the season at 68:27 to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Eagles.
A goal by Juniata's Jennifer Novak at 75:11 closed out the scoring. The Eagles finished with a 23-13 edge in shots.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Sam Schlosburg (North Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) was awarded an assist on Kettner's goal in the first half and Katherine Matthew-Parker (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) set up the goal Kettner scored in the 69th minute.
