Goals by Kettner, McDowell Erase Deficits for Goucher
WESTMINSTER, Md. — Goucher overcame a pair of one-goal deficits today to finish in a 2-2 (2OT) tie with McDaniel.
The Gophers (2-6-2) found themselves down 1-0 before the contest was even a minute old. Kelly Crawford produced the first goal as she finished from short range off a service pass from Liz Beall at 00:40.
Sophomore forward Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season when she deposited a shot in the upper half of the net from the right side at 24:55, creating a 1-1 tie.
The Green Terror (2-4-3) regained the lead at 72:49 when Hilary Hanus put a rebound in following a save by senior goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) on a shot by Kelly Crawford. But freshman defender Caroline McDowell (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) answered for Goucher when she went top shelf with a free kick from just outside the box at 79:08.
After combining to make 13 saves during regulation, the two goalkeepers each stopped one shot in overtime. McDaniel's Jan Woolley made her seventh and final save during the first 10-minute extra session on a shot by sophomore forward/midfielder Sam Schlosburg (North Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton); Matthews made a play on a shot by Crawford in the second OT for her eighth save.
The Green Terror finished with a 24-13 advantage in shots.
