Kettner: At Least One Goal in Seven of Last Nine Games
TOWSON, Md. — Sophomore forward Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season today as Goucher turned back Wesley, 2-1, in non-conference action on Beldon Field.
Following a scoreless first half, the Gophers (4-8-2) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sisley Pumilia (Spofford, N.H./Keene) at 48:30. Kettner delivered a pass to Pumilia in the center of the box and the senior midfielder got off a shot that glanced off the goalkeeper's extended hand and into the net.
Kettner provided the home team with a 2-0 advantage at 60:18 by depositing a shot from the top of the box into the net. Starting with her two-goal performance against Juniata back on Sept. 25, she has supplied the Gophers with at least one goal in seven of their last nine games.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Sam Schlosburg (North Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) was awarded an assist on Kettner's goal.
The Wolverines (3-12-1), who brought a modest two-game winning streak into today's contest, closed to within 2-1 when Lacey Smith knocked in an unassisted goal from a multi-player pile in the box at 79:55.
Following Smith's goal, the Wolverines were able to get off only one more shot, but senior goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) had to make a play on it to prevent a goal. Matthews finished with two saves.
Prior to today, Goucher and Wesley had never met in the sport of women's soccer.
