Gophers Expand Advantage Six Times in Second Half
BALTIMORE, Md. — Sophomore forward Katherine Matthew-Parker (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) had a hand in five consecutive goals today as Goucher rolled to a 7-0 triumph over Notre Dame (Md.) in the season-opening contest for both schools.
Three-Goal, Two-Assist Effort for Matthew-Parker in 7-0 Win
BALTIMORE, Md. — Sophomore forward Katherine Matthew-Parker (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) had a hand in five consecutive goals today as Goucher rolled to a 7-0 triumph over Notre Dame (Md.) in the season-opening contest for both schools.
The Gophers outshot the Gators (0-1), 13-7, in the opening 45:00, but led only 1-0 at the end of the first half. The scoreless tie lasted only 3:53 before freshman midfielder Maeve Downey (West Baldwin, Maine/Sacopee Valley) tallied the lone goal of the period.
Freshman forward Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) scored twice in the opening 12:00 of the second half to extend Goucher's lead to 3-0. Matthew-Parker, who set up Buskey's second goal, was also awarded an assist on a goal by junior midfielder Sarah Eaby (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) at 59:26 that made the score 4-0 in favor of the Gophers (1-0).
Matthew-Parker later stuck three goals of her own during a span of less than nine minutes to conclude the scoring.
Regan Foy (Crofton, Md./The Key School), who started in goal for Goucher and played into the 77th minute, was credited with five saves. Isa Cidral (Florianopolis, Brazil/Desert Academy) was called on to make one save after relieving Foy in order to preserve the shutout.
