TOWSON, Md. — A goal by Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) with 3:04 remaining in regulation provided Goucher with a much-deserved 1-0 victory over Hood tonight on Beldon Field.
The win was the fourth this season for head coach Tati Korba's squad in a game in which the Gophers failed to score a goal in the first half. It was also Goucher's first in the series between the in-state rivals since a 9-1 triumph over the Blazers back in 2005.
Buskey's team-leading seventh goal of the season was set up by junior forward Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall), who delivered a beautiful through ball into the box where the freshman forward one-timed it past a diving keeper.
Prior to allowing the goal, Kirsten Cacciola made nine saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Blazers (2-12). Likewise, junior Regan Foy (Crofton, Md./The Key School) went the distance in net for Goucher and recorded her third shutout of the season with a six-save performance.
The Gophers (6-5) finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots.
