Gophers Hang On to 1-0 Advantage Until 59th Minute
TOWSON, N.J. — Freshman forward Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) provided Goucher with a 1-0 lead over Susquehanna when she tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season just 30 seconds into today's Landmark Conference game on Beldon Field.
That left a lot of time for the Crusaders to mount a comeback. And they took their time.
It wasn't until the 59th minute that Marissa DeParto sent in a long, floating shot that eluded the keeper, evening the score at 1-1. Then nearly 17 more minutes passed before Susquehanna went ahead for the first time on a goal by Jessica Takats.
Laura Buriak closed out the scoring by finishing off a 2-on-1 break with less than eight minutes left to play as the Crusaders (7-5-1, 2-2 Landmark) prevailed 3-1.
In the opening minute of play, Buskey was able to chip a ball over a defender and regain possession on the opposite side before sliding it past the keeper to put Goucher up 1-0. It was the first of nine shots the Gophers (6-6, 1-3 Landmark) got off in the first half and one of nine for the entire contest.
The Crusaders finished with 16 shots.
Kate Wiley was awarded assists on the goal by Takats at 75:05 that snapped the 1-1 tie and the goal by Buriak at 82:35.
