Foy Finishes with Five Saves in 13th Consecutive Start This Season
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher could have strengthened its case for being one of the four teams to advance to the Landmark Conference postseason tournament by knocking off Catholic tonight on Beldon Field. And for more than 80 minutes, that looked entirely possible as they remained locked in a scoreless tie with the visiting Cardinals.
But with overtime looming, Catholic's Caitlin Brett was the first to reach a loose ball near the top of the box. The senior midfielder unleashed a wicked shot which she deposited in the side netting at 82:57 to put her team up 1-0.
The Cardinals managed to protect the lead Brett gave them for the remaining 7:03 and emerged with a 1-0 victory that allowed them to stay tied with Scranton for first place in the Landmark Conference.
Both teams got off five shots in the opening 45 minutes. All five of the attempts by the Gophers (6-7, 1-4 Landmark) were on goal, forcing starting goalkeeper Yasmeen Ajdari to make five saves. Regan Foy (Crofton, Md./The Key School) was credited with four saves in the first half as she made her 13th consecutive start in goal for Goucher this season.
Foy added only one save to her total in the second half, during which the Cardinals (9-5, 4-0 Landmark) enjoyed a 5-1 edge in shots.
