Kettner Repeats as Second-Team All-Landmark Selection
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) became only the third female soccer player to reach double figures in goals during the inaugural season of her collegiate career in the five-year history of the Landmark Conference when she supplied the Gophers with a team-leading total of 10 goals this season.
The other two — Arielle Caldas from Moravian in 2008 and Courtney Orgill from Catholic in 2009 — were both selected Rookies of the Year in the Landmark Conference. Buskey, it was disclosed today with the release of the 2011 All-Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Team, has been accorded the same honor.
The team was chosen through balloting by the conference's seven head coaches. The selections were made by position and 12 players were placed on the All-Landmark first team and the remaining 12 on the second team.
Buskey, who tallied the game-winning goal in three of the Gophers' seven victories this season and was credited with one assist for a total of 21 points in the 15 games in which she appeared, was a second-team selection at forward. The freshman is also the first Goucher player to be named conference Rookie of the Year since Cara Peckens was recognized as such by the Capital Athletic Conference in 2001.
One of Buskey's teammates joined her on the All-Landmark squad: junior Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) repeated as a second-team selection — this time as a midfielder — after a one-goal, three-assist performance this season.
