Freshman GK Remains Perfect in Net, Makes Three Saves
READING, Pa. — Deuces were wild tonight as Goucher used two second-half goals to win its second straight game, each with a 2-0 scoreline.
Much like the team's first game against Lancaster Bible, the Gophers were held scoreless in first half, mustering only two shots in the opening 45 minutes. Also just like in the opener, the team was able to break through twice in the final period, this time in a span of 3:41, to earn the program's first perfect record through two games since 2008.
In the 67th minute, Sarah Eaby (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School), appropriately wearing the number 22 on her uniform, struck for Goucher. The senior found the ball at her feet 20 yards out after a scramble off a corner kick. Without hesitating, the midfielder ripped the ball far post, striking the side netting.
Less than four minutes later the lead was doubled by sophomore forward Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown), who had the assist on Eaby's goal. After receiving a pass from Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall), Buskey turned and beat the keeper high, depositing the ball in the far corner.
It was déjà vu for last year's Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, as Buskey also supplied an assist and followed with an insurance goal in the team's season-opening victory over the Chargers.
In net, freshman Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) remained unblemished in her career, notching her second consecutive shutout. Rudolph followed up her four-save performance against Lancaster Bible by stopping three attempts by the Lions (1-2).
Albright outshot Goucher by a 9-7 margin.
