Eighth Shutout on the Season For 9-1 Gophers
TOWSON, Md. — This Goucher team has made its mark with stingy defense, but it was the offense that took center stage today in a 5-0 rout of Juniata.
While five saves from Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) gave Goucher (9-1, 1-1 Landmark) its eighth shutout through its first ten games, Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) stole the show for the Gophers.
The sophomore forward had a hand in four of the five Goucher goals, scoring the first three goals and assisting on the fourth.
Buskey opened the scoring just 12:33 into the contest, as she took a long feed from Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) down the left side into the box, where she slipped it past the keeper.
The two teamed up for the second goal as well when Kettner drew both defenders and used her left foot to slide the ball to Buskey in the box. Last year's Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year patiently accepted the pass and shot across the goal mouth into the open side netting.
Off a corner kick from Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia), Buskey completed her troika of goals with a flying kick to the ball just inside the six yard box.
Just over three minutes later, Buskey earned an assist as she saved a loose ball and crossed it low into the six. Jessica Leffers (Germantown, Md./Northwest) coralled the ball and, with the first shot of her career, tallied her first career goal into the far side netting.
Closing out the scoring was Kettner, who took a long ball from Maeve Downey (West Baldwin, Maine/Sacopee Valley) into the box slipping it past the keeper.
Despite the scoreline, Juniata (6-3-1, 0-1 Landmark) only had two fewer shots than Goucher, but could not get any of its nine attempts past Harkavy.
