Landmark Salutes Buskey on Offense, Harkavy for Defense
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher produced both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for the sport of women's soccer for September 24-30.
As announced this morning by the conference, the week's top offensive performer was sophomore forward Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) and freshman goalkeeper Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) was recognized for her accomplishments on defense.
It was a goal by Buskey, who is leading the Landmark Conference in goals (11) and assists (7) this season, that provided the Gophers with last week's 1-0 triumph in double overtime over McDaniel. She followed that up with a three-goal, one-assist performance against Juniata on Saturday, powering her team to a 5-0 victory.
In the 26 games she's played since arriving at Goucher, Buskey has scored 21 goals.
Harkavy had appeared in only two of Goucher's first eight games before making back-to-back starts last week against the Green Terror and Eagles and responding with a pair of shutouts. Against McDaniel, she made six saves, which included turning away a pair of point-blank rebounds seconds after making a sprawling save; she stopped five more shots in the Juniata game to help the Gophers pick up their first Landmark Conference win.
Harkavy is the only goalkeeper in the conference who has played more than 300 minutes this season and still maintains a 0.00 goals-against average.
