Foul Call in Box Disallows Lone Goucher Goal
TOWSON, Md. — A pair of early goals, just over three minutes apart, proved to be the only scoring in today's Landmark Conference contest.
Emma Campbell scored twice for Drew (5-5-1, 1-1-1 Landmark), at 12:25 and 15:37, to give the Rangers their winning margin. First, Campbell carried the ball into the six after beating her defender, slotting it into the net. A little more than three minutes later, Katie O'Keefe sent a long feed from midfield over the defense, where Campbell fought off a defender to double the lead.
Goucher (9-2-1, 1-2 Landmark) had chances to get back in the game, but could not break through. After conceding the second goal, the Gophers took eight shots, three of which required saves to keep them out.
The team did manage to find the back of the net in the 61st minute, but the goal was disallowed. Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) took a pass from Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) and placed it in the top corner, but the play was called back due to a foul call in the box previous to the shot.
The play would have given Buskey, who was ranked 12th in the nation in points coming into the week, her 30th point of the season.
Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) stopped all four shots on goal she faced in the second half in relief of starter Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway), who made one save.
